Doing Business in Vietnam Information Session – February 10, 2020

Vietnam has become a significant market for potential Canadian business in the wake of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. In an effort to educate and support Canadian Companies and Enterprises with the framework of the CPTPP, the Canada-Vietnam Trade Council and the City of Toronto hosted a Doing Business in Vietnam information session with the aim of sharing experiences in doing business in Vietnam. Pace Global Advantage, and our sister company, Pace Immigration has a network of clients in the region, so we were eager to learn about the latest developments.

The event focused on the benefits to the CPTPP one year after its inception, with a variety of speakers sharing their experiences of doing business in Vietnam. This included Director of Canada-Vietnam Trade Council Julie Nguyen, Deputy Mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong (City of Toronto), Ms. Huong Do (Commercial Counsellor, Trade Office, The Embassy of Vietnam), Ms. Catherine Jollymore & Ms. Sarah Bernier (Global Affairs Canada), and Ms. Cholong Lim (Ontario Ministry of Economic Development) — all sharing their firsthand experience of what to expect in Vietnam, and providing useful information for Canadian businesses. Due to a shortage of homegrown technologies and initiatives, Vietnam is looking globally for aviation technologies, education, environmental / cleantech, agriculture and agri-food products, and information communication technology.

Invest Lithuania visit – February 6, 2020

As part of our outreach to deepen business relations between Canada and Lithuania, on February 6, 2020 we welcomed H.E. Darius Skusevičius, Ambassador of Lithuania in Canada, on his first official visit to Toronto, as well as Paul Kuras, the Honorary Consul General of in Toronto, who both accompanied the delegation from Invest Lithuania: Gintarė Bačiulienė and Kristina Balčėtė.

Invest Lithuania is a non-profit organization funded by Lithuania’s Ministry of Economy and Innovation. Its mission is to attract foreign investment and provide free advice and connections to global companies interested in doing business in Lithuania. They provide in-depth market and industry insights, information on local labor and legal framework, introduction to peer companies, authorities, or institutions. Their assistance is personalized, meaning each applicant’s case is individually assessed and granted support.

Pace Global Advantage will continue to work on helping businesses to connect with the right partners, including assisting Lithuanian and Canadian relations.

Design Terminal Aquathon Event — March 26-27, 2020

Water scarcity affects at least 2.5 billion people today, and by 2050 will be a daily problem for over half the world’s population. Aquathon is a 24-hour innovative idea competition or ‘hackathon’ for finding technological solutions to this problem. It is aimed at graduate students or startups with a working prototype, in teams of 2–4. Applicants can sign up from now to March 1, will be notified of their acceptance on March 9–10, and will compete on March 26–27 at Design Terminal’s location in Budapest.

The goal of the competition is to develop a solution to promote responsible water use and prevent waste, which can be scaled internationally. Teams will have access to workshops, one-on-one sessions with mentors, and consultations with industry experts on their solution. At the competition’s end, each team will present their solution (3-4 minutes) to an international panel of experts, with prizes for the top three solutions.

Aquathon is looking for ‘digital solutions’ in particular, such as the use of cloud-based systems to monitor and record daily water consumption and efficiency of water filtration systems at the residential level.

The official language of the event is Hungarian, but interpreters are available upon request. Food and drinks will be provided, but entrants must bring their own electronic devices, as well as a passport or identity card. For further questions, the organizers can be contacted by email.

The event is funded by Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation, a nonprofit organization focusing on environmental issues in Hungary, in conjunction with Design Terminal, which in 2016 was awarded “Best Incubator in Hungary” by the Central European Startup Awards.

PGA Follow-Up Trip to Vilnius, Lithuania November 25 – 29, 2019

Following PGA’s trip to the region in October, we timed our follow-up visit to coincide with the biggest fintech conference in the Baltics, Fintech Inn, as well as the state visit of the Governor General of Canada, the Right Honourable Julie Payette – both took place in the same week.
